Halloween Mindfulness: Witch’s Breath

This Halloween Mindfulness activity: Witch’s Breath is the very first visual breathing tool for kids that I’ve created here on the website. (Yay!)  . It’s perfect for Halloween and Fall!

Deep Breathing

Deep breathing exercises are designed to support self-regulation, mindfulness   and brain break needs.

Many times, kids can struggle at home and school with anger or frustration and they lack the coping strategies needed in those situations. They require tools to improve self-regulation. This can occur both at school and home.

Children, like adults, experience worry and anxiety, fears and can be nervous in life situations and having simple strategies on hand can help them cope during the day.

One way to do this is to use mindfulness strategies like deep breathing exercises.

Children who practice mindfulness will find it much easier to focus and actively engage in the classroom. Practicing mindfulness  and breathing exercises can be very powerful for kids as they grow and navigate the world we live in. Students in the classroom who use mindfulness   will bring a sense of collective calm to the space as well making the learning environment more favorable for everyone.  Incorporating mindfulness  can be fun !

The fun part comes from using various themes and ideas and surrounding them with mindfulness   Like this Witch breath!

 WITCH’S BREATH DEEP BREATHING

Let’s make deep breathing fun and combine it with the theme of Halloween and use it as way to cope or calm down.

That is where this witch’s cackle breathing comes in.

This FREE deep breathing printable witch activity uses a simple picture of a witch but you could use a real witches hat and pretend to be a witch with the kids cackling like a witch does on each out breath.

How to:

  1. Take a large deep breath in through your nose
  1. As you breath out, let out your best witch’s laugh. This could be a sinister hahaha, an evil cackle, or whatever you imagine a witch’s laugh to be like. Let your imagination run wild! See who can make the best and/or scariest witch’s laugh!

Ways to Use:

  1. Use the Poster as a Printable and hang it in the classroom, therapy room or at home.
  1. Use the deep breathing exercises as a brain break during the month of October, especially as we get closer to Halloween where there is a lot of sensory overload and perhaps even anxiety during Halloween Parties or even trick-or-treating.
  1. Pass around a witch’s hat and have everyone take a deep breath in and share their best witch’s laugh!
